A small Jazz festival in Rotterdam, with five venues in town five days long.
I had the opportunity to take some photos on the last festival day at the different stages in De Doelen. That evening there were concerts from Dutch pianist Michiel Borstlap, who was also the festival artist of this years festival, but also the legendary pianist Cedar Walton with his quintet. As special guest with Michiel Borstlap Lori Lieberman singed a very special arrangement, made by Michiel Borstlap, of Killing Me Softly.

Photo series of Jazz Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel with his Standards Trio. Taken on November 6th 2010 during a concert at Paradox Tilburg, The Netherlands.
The trio was complete in its element. For me it was the first time to hear and see drummer Ted Poor. He is a great drummer and immediately got on my short list of favorite drummers. Kurt Rosenwinkel played in his authentic style with beautiful melodic phrases and perfect harmonies.

The very special duo Wolfert Brederode & Joost Lijbaart performing at a unique location in Amsterdam, the Roode Bioscoop. Sitting literally one meter from the musicians and listen to the great improvisations. The duo was playing five days together at the Roode Bioscoop. At the evening of this shoot they had invited saxophonist Yuri Honing and bassist Tony Overwater.

With 15 stages it might be the biggest Jazz festival of the world. In the weekend of 9, 10 and 11 July the North Sea Jazz Festival celebrated it’s 35th edition. Big names like Stevie Wonder, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Hutcherson, Ron Carter, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, Joss Stone and many more performed at the festival. Rotterdam was completely in the mood for Jazz combined with the world cup soccer finals. This overview gives an impression of the concerts on Friday July 9th and Sunday July 11th 2010.

Exploring the rain forest in Costa Rica is such an experience. Monkeys, Toucans, Hummingbirds, Snakes, Spiders; I have never experienced wildlife and nature so intense.
